Settlers of Catan - Foamcore Insert

Settlers of Catan comes with a well designed insert for the base game. But having found its popularity with our gaming group the 5-6 player expansion was required. One problem with the expansion is there is no insert in the box nor will it fit well into the original box. Seeing some examples of others who had combined both boxes to save space, I set out to ignore the existence of these other plans to base mine on and reinvent the wheel.

After measuring out all the pieces and playing round with some ideas in the box, I set out creating the layout in SketchUp (see below for the file). To aid with ease of setup and keeping things tidy I’ve made lift out trays for the Resource and Development cards.

In the end it has all come together well, but I found when working with foamcore I was a little to optimistic with my skills to construct it within the minimal tolerances I set. Therefore if you want to attempt building this from the attached design it would pay to put some work into the lift out trays for the Resource and Development cards.
